Volunteering is a great way to get out in the community, meet new people and help someone or a group who is in need. Volunteering can be done in whatever sort of capacity you have to give, be it a lot time or here and there in between your already busy schedule. Most organizations are just happy to have an extra hand. Choose an organization from our list below that connects with you.
Salmon Arm Rotary clubs
Salmon Arm is lucky to have three Rotary clubs in town, a morning, noon and evening club. A group for whatever fits your schedule best! All working to better the community by building new parks, fundraising to improve infrastructure within the community, implementing essential services in third world countries, and countless hours of volunteering and running events within their own community. Most clubs have weekly meetings. Try up to three meetings for free before deciding if you would like to become a member.
Shuswap Hospital Foundation
The purpose of the Shuswap Hospital Foundation is to accept, manage, and disburse funds and properties to the benefit of Shuswap Health Services. Funds are used to help meet the need for priority equipment, facilities, and upgrades that will enhance the care of patients and residents of these health care facilities and services. All investments are property is held in trust. Become a board member and help organize different events to help fundraise for a very deserving cause.
Mamas for Mamas – Salmon Arm Branch
A national organization that supports mothers and caregivers in crisis by providing support to individuals and families facing various poverty-related struggles. Being apart of the Mamas for Mamas team can look like sourcing donations, organizing donation drives or charity events. All in hopes to stock the shelves for families to come and take what they need. The only currency accepted is kindness. The organization is called Mamas for Mamas, but they lend a helping hand to any caregiver in need, no matter the gender.
Salmon Arm Volunteer Fire Fighter
Become a valued asset to the community by joining your local fire hall. Fire departments are responsible for enforcing the BC Fire Code, local bylaws and areas of emergencies. You will also get to be apart of educating the local youth on how to be Fire Smart.
Salmon Arm Fall Fair (SAF)
A wide variety of volunteer positions are needed to help pull off one of the biggest and historical, annual events Salmon Arm has. Become a board member and help facilitate organization or volunteer a few hours of your time on the weekend of. No matter your talents or time frame, there is a way for everyone to volunteer for the Salmon Arm Fall Fair.
Women who Wine - But do something about it
Making a meaningful impact in our community by connecting and empowering women of various business acumens within Salmon Arm, through meaningful networking events and collectively giving back to our community by quarterly giving events where members vote on a non-profit organization to receive their quarterly donation. Become a member and take part in monthly member meetings and quarterly giving events. Or if monthly meetings are too much for your plate, become a friend of Women who wine by giving an annual donation! An annual donation gives you two tickets to the quarterly giving events where you can help decide which for non-profit organization
Youth Sports Organizations
Passionate about youth sports and want to get involved? Salmon Arm has many sporting organizations that can always use a fresh set of helping hands. From hockey, swimming, soccer, cross-country skiing, to football and mountain biking, you name it the kids in Salmon Arm are doing it. Are animals more your thing? Donate your time by becoming a 4-H leader for one of the many clubs in town or participate in the local Girl Guides and Scouts groups.
Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Association
For over 30 years, the Roots and Blues Festival has been providing our small town with a weekend filled of folk and bluegrass music for the whole family. With multiple stages, dozens of vendors and of course great music, watch out small town come alive. It takes a team of hardworking individuals to make this annual event happen and to keep visitors coming back year after year. Join the board members in planning and organizing, become a sponsor, or donate your time the weekend of. Everything and anything is appreciated.
School District #83 One to One reading Program
Be apart of helping youngsters learn to read by becoming a One-to-One reading partner. Early literacy intervention is key to helping young kids develop and build on their reading power. Feel good by knowing you are vital piece in our school’s programs.
Volunteering with Interior Health
Have a few hours to spare? Become a friendly greeter at the Shuswap Lake General hospital. Help patients find where they are going, deliver items to patients, become a one-to-one companion for patients and work in the hospital auxiliary. Or volunteer at one of Interior Health’s retirement homes, Bastion Place where there are plenty of volunteer opportunities.
BCSPCA
Snuggle puppies, play with kittens, or work to rehabilitate wildlife. The BCSPCA has six different ways to volunteer your time, depending on what you are interested in. Join the volunteer team, foster a furry friend, join the farm animal care team, work to help rehabilitate wildlife, volunteering for youths, and group opportunities.
Wheels of Hope Driver
For people living with Cancer, transportation to treatment and be challenging. Volunteer to drive 3-4 times per month for people receiving life saving treatments.
Legion Salmon Arm, Branch #62
Help at your local Legion branch with bartending, kitchen staff, meat draws, pancake breakfasts and poppy campaigns. Must become a member, be able to work 4-6 hour shifts and have a clean criminal record check.
Second Harvest Foodbank
Give your time making sure your local community isn't short on food. Second Harvest solely relies on community donations and volunteer hours. They currently supplement 250 local families who would go without if it wasn't for this organization. They also offer a special dairy program for families with children. Hours of distribution are Wednesday 10:00am - 6:00pm.
