A hiking we will go, a hiking we will go!

Ready to take on the trail with your little one (yahooo adventure awaits) but where do you go?
B.C is known for its many breathtaking hiking trails and the Shuswap is no different. We have an abundance of hiking trails, waterfalls, and adventure spots to explore. Being able to hike and explore with your little ones can help create those core memories we value so much. Knowing which trails are easy for new walkers or not too long for small toddler legs, can be a key part in a successful hike with the kids.

Margaret Falls

This is a very popular, flat, wide, out and back trail that leads to the biggest waterfall in the Shuswap. This 1. km walk is located about 20mins out of town, it is a quick drive for this must-see waterfall! Start the walk from the day use parking lot or right from Herald’s Provincial Park Campground. Kids will love walking on the bridges and looking up at the trees crisscrossing over the canyon.

White Lake Lookout
Double whammy with this one! The trail head starts at the John Evdokimoff Community Park and the trail to the lookout starts just to the left of that. This trail is about 5 km long, with some steeper sections at the top that toddlers might need help with. You and your little ones will enjoy the stunning views from the top. We’ll leave you to negotiate the park play!

Syphon Falls
0.2 km of trail for all skill levels with the opportunity for your new walker to try stairs outside. This quick hike is a nice way to stretch your legs if you're driving through Mara Lake or a quick drive from Salmon Arm. Stop in at D Dutchmen Dairy after the hike to see the cows and taste their amazing local ice cream.

Salmon Arm Foreshore (Raven) trail
This is a great trail if you are staying downtown in Salmon Arm. All ages can enjoy this trail since the entire thing is flat! Throughout the trail there are opportunities to walk along boardwalks over top of the marshy ground. Giving everyone a better chance to view the birds and ducks. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the resident Bever family!
