Hut trips

Hut trips offer the same rewarding feeling of making it into the alpine or backcountry, being surrounded by amazing views and scenery, but the comfort of four walls around you at night. Backcountry huts in British Columbia and Canada are maintained and ran by the Alpine Club of Canada or ACC for short. In some scenarios, huts are helicoptered into remote locations offering adventurists lasting memories and new accomplishments. Depending on the hut, some have wood stoves or propane stoves, cookware and utensils. Remember these huts are shared accommodations with other likeminded outdoorsmen and women, so it is important to brush up on proper hut adequate, available on the ACC website.

I recently stayed at the Asulkan Hut in Glacier National Park, located in Rogers Pass, BC. The 8 km hike in was fairly gradual until the last 3 km then it got steep but we knew we were almost there! It took us about 3.5 hrs from the trailhead. At this hut, propane was the main source of heat and light, along with a propane stove. The kitchen was well equipped with anything you needed. The hut can sleep up to 10 people upstairs in the loft, and had two outhouses just a short walk from the hut. Users of the hut are responsible for cleaning and packing out any garbage or leftover food brought in. This hut is open all year round and is also a popular destination for ski touring. Users must be prepared and confident in the backcountry and have taken the proper steps for booking and getting a parks pass for the duration of your stay. It was an amazing experience that I wont soon forget.
